Last year Sacramento celebrated its first year as the Farm-to-Fork Capital of America. Sitting in the most fertile region of the United States and home to more types of produce than anywhere else in the country (if not on Earth), it is a designation that is well deserved.
The Farm-to-Fork festivities occur in September and this year the dates have increased to two weeks - September 14 to 28. A slew of activities will take place, culminating in the free Festival on the Capitol Mall on the 27th and the Finale Tower Bridge Dinner on the 28th. Today the $175 Bridge dinner tickets went on sale and sold out in an amazing five minutes!
Of course Sacramento is filled with many restaurants using the bounty of the region. Farm-to-Fork dining, also known as locavore dining, is nothing new to the locals. Many of the area farms are familiar names on restaurant menus, such as tomatoes from Watanabe Farms, fruit from Twin Peaks Orchards, farm raised fish from Passmore Ranch, and fresh lamb from Emigh Lamb.
One of the more affordable dinner options during Farm-to-Fork will be the prix fixe dinners offered during the two week run. That's where Dinnerwire comes in. We'll be hosting the restaurant profile pages and the prix fixe menus for all the participating restaurants. You'll also get to see which restaurants have the Farm-to-Fork designation by the logo above being marked on their pages.
